Sexual Sadism - Sexual Sadism Symptom, Cause, Treatment
Sadism is the act of deriving pleasure, often sexual, from mistreating others and therefore these people find others whom they victimize with their behavior. As long as it occurs with a consenting partner, sexual sadism is not considered to be a psychological disorder. This disorder is different from minor acts of aggression in normal sexual activity; for example, rough sex. In some cases, sexual sadists are able to find willing partners to participate in the sadistic activities. Sexual sadism refers to the derivation of sexual pleasure from the infliction of pain, suffering and/or humiliation upon another person Other acts involve domination, such as making the other person crawl or keeping him or her in a cage.
Repeatedly for at least 6 months, the patient experiences intense sexual desires, fantasies or behaviors concerning real acts of causing physical or psychological torment or otherwise humiliating another. the infliction of suffering is not the motive for most rapists, and the victim's pain generally does not increase the rapist's sexual excitement. These sadists may eventually seriously injure or kill someone. Sexual sadists who attack nonconsenting victims tend to continue until legal authorities catch them. Sexual sadism with consenting partners is treated with psychotherapy from a specialist in the field. According to the DSM these catastrophic results are more likely when the paraphilia is diagnosed as severe, and when it is associated with antisocial personality disorder , a personality disorder that may include psychotic
Symptoms of Sexual Sadism

- Individuals with sexual sadism derive sexual excitement from physically or psychologically administering pain, suffering, and/or humiliation to another person, who may or may not be a consenting partner.
- A description of symptoms related to Sexual Masochism and Sadism, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving the act (real, not simulated) of being humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise made to suffer.
- dificulty with sleep, such as: difficulty falling asleep, restless, broken sleep, a need for more sleep or, over sleeping.
- A change in appetite either eating more or eating less.
- The disorder is characterized by either intense sexually arousing fantasies, urges, or behaviors in which the individual is sexually aroused by causing humiliation or physical suffering of another person.
Causes of Sexual Sadism
The common Causes of Sexual Sadism :
- There is no identified cause but the age of onset is commonly by early adulthood.
- Most paraphilic fantasies begin in late childhood or adolescence and continue throughout adult life.
- An individual who is dressed in a woman's clothes as a form of parental punishment
- Sociocultural factors
Treatment of Sexual Sadism
- The course of paraphilia is usually chronic in nature and may require both the application of psychotherapeutic techniques and drug therapy.
- This approach to treatment may include the management and conditioning of arousal patterns and masturbation.
- With this kind of conditioning, the negative event is real rather than imagined.
- Sexually transmitted diseases and other medical problems may be present, especially when the sadistic behavior involves the release of blood or other body fluids.
- Aversion imagery involves the pairing of a sexually arousing paraphilic stimulus with an unpleasant image, such as being arrested or having one's name appear in the newspaper.
- Social skills training is used with either of the other approaches and is aimed at improving a person's ability to form interpersonal relationships.
