Sexual Disorder - Sexual Disorder Symptom, Cause, Treatment

Although the majority of sexual dysfunction probably has a physical basis it is fitting to mention some sexual disorders here because dysfunctions, whether mainly due to physical or psychological causes, can result in distress. As defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (the clinician's diagnostic bible), they involve recurrent fantasies, urges or behaviors of a sexual nature that center around children, non-humans (animals, objects, materials), or harming others or one's self. A medical cause must be ruled out prior to making any sexual dysfunction diagnosis and the symptoms must be hindering the person's everyday functioning. While research suggests that sexual dysfunction is common (43% of women and 31% of men report some degree of difficulty), it is a topic that many people are hesitant to discuss. Women also can experience a variety of sexual problems, such as lack of desire, difficulty becoming aroused, difficulty having an orgasm or pain during sex. When a physical or emotional problem associated with sex persists, it's time to contact a health care professional. Basically, it includes strong feelings of being the wrong gender, or feelings that your outward body is inconsistent with your internal sense of being either male or female.

Symptoms of Sexual Disorder

Some are common Symptoms of Sexual Disorder :

  • Pain with intercourse (much less common in men than women)
  • Sexual aversion disorder (avoidance of or lack of desire for sexual intercourse)
  • Delay or absence of ejaculation, despite adequate stimulation
  • Inadequate vaginal lubrication before and during intercourse
  • Male erectile disorder
  • Premature ejaculation

Causes of Sexual Disorder

The common Causes of Sexual Disorder :

  • Inadequate or ineffective foreplay
  • Sexual abuse or incest
  • Feelings of shame or guilt about sex
  • These include work-related stress and anxiety , concern about sexual performance, marital or relationship problems, depression , feelings of guilt, and the effects of a past sexual trauma.
  • These conditions include diabetes , heart and vascular (blood vessel) disease, neurological disorders, hormonal imbalances, chronic diseases such as kidney or liver failure, and alcoholism and drug abuse .
  • conflicts in the relationship with your partner
  • feeling unhappy, or physically and emotionally unsatisfied
  • hormonal changes, including those related to pregnancy and menopause

Treatment of Sexual Disorder

Hare is list of the methods for treating

  • Physical therapy and mechanical aides may prove helpful for some people experiencing sexual dysfunction due to physical illnesses, conditions, or disabilities.
  • Psychological counselling can also play an important part in treating women with sexual problems, as can coaching in sexual foreplay and stimulation techniques.
  • For physical causes of sexual problems it is always important to involve a gynaecologist or a urologist in the treatment.
